Some pet stories start out adorable, then take a turn no one saw coming. This one begins with a woman, her beloved python, and a nightly habit that seemed harmless until the vet asked one very specific question.

A woman loved her pet python so much that she let it sleep in her bed every night.

Each evening, the snake would stretch out beside her, lying along her body from head to toe. At first, she thought it was sweet.

Then, after a few months, the python suddenly stopped eating. Worried, the woman took it to the veterinarian and explained that her beloved snake was refusing every meal.

The vet asked about the python’s routine.

— Does it ever stretch itself out along your body while you sleep?
— Yes, every night, the woman replied.

The vet’s face changed. He explained that the python was not cuddling. It was measuring her.

Each time the snake stretched out beside her, it was practicing for its next big meal.

The veterinarian told her the python had stopped eating because it was preparing for a giant feast: the woman herself.
